C16    Justify why you would not mix more than two pellets of alloy in a capsule at one time.

 

After 3 to 4 minutes of condensation, counted from the end of the trituration, the amalgam starts setting. Thus, if one mixes all the amalgam that is needed for a big amalgam restoration from the beginning, one will end up with condensing partly set amalgam at the end. During condensation, the partly set amalgam will build up more and more micro flaws and these flaws will weaken the amalgam.
