I am a Diagnostic Medical Physicist working for LORAD, a Hologic company.  As a medical physicist and member of Scientific Research at LORAD, I work on innovative and new technologies in breast imaging.  LORAD has established a track record for developing leading-edge technology in breast imaging and biopsy to produce superior image quality and enhanced detection capabilities to aid in the early detection of breast cancer.

My education was completed at the University of Florida, where I received my Ph.D. degree (1998) in Diagnostic Medical Physics with the Department of Nuclear and Radiological Engineering.  My dissertation was on "Patient Dosimetry and Image Quality in Interventional Neuroradiology."

Personal Profile

I was born in Greece in 1970 and came to the United States in 1988 to get an education in engineering and physics.

I started my higher education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts, where I got my Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1992.  My first exposure to Medical Physics was through my work at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center where I worked on the development of a novel intraoperative miniature gamma camera as part of my undegraduate theses.

The fall of 1992 I joined the Medical Physics program  at the Department of Nuclear and Radiological Engineering at the University of Florida, where I completed my Master’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Physics in the summer of 1995.  I continued as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Florida and I was awarded the Doctoral degree on the same subject in the fall of 1998.

After graduating from the University of Florida, I joined Imaging Diagnostic Systems, Inc. at the end of 1998 to work as a Medical Physicist for their Research & Development division.  Imaging Diagnostic Systems works on the development of a computed tomography laser mammography system (CTLM), which is an optical CT scanner for mammography using laser sources and optical detectors.

The summer of 2000 I joined the medical physics group at Baylor University Medical Center to work as a clinical medical physicist in the areas of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

The spring of 2001 I joined the Scientific Research division at LORAD, a Hologic Company, seeking challenge in the area of mammography and breast imaging.  With today's movement towards digital imaging, LORAD offers a great environment to develop new ideas and leading-edge technologies in breast imaging for early and improved diagnosis of breast cancer.

For a complete description of my involvement in Medical Physics you can check my curriculum vitae on-line in Adobe Acrobat 5.0 PDF format.
