-Links of Interest-

Red Herring- This small circulation magazine covers emerging technology companies and trends in the tech sector as a whole. In my opinion it does an excellent job looking at the future of the Internet through the eyes of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. The articles are pertinent, thorough, and spiced with delightful wit. A must read.
Onsale.com- Onsale is one of the few clean internet sites actually making a profit. This online auction house sells everything from computers to steaks five times a week. Check 'em out if your looking for something particular to buy or considering investing in this nascent startup (symbol ONSL - Nasdaq).
News.com- This CNet site offers breaking news for the tech industry. They also do a good job keeping on top of legal decisions that impact tech.
Center for Democracy and Technology- This organization educates politicians and judges about the importance of the net. The CDT played a large role in the successful challenge to the Communications Decency Act (they even wired the CDA's district court to show the judges the power of the web). The CDT organizes roundtables and conferences in which local and national politicians are invited to take part, or just observe, and meet the people behind today's technology. This organization takes its mission seriously- they even post working projects and a yearly agenda on their site. Definitely bookmark this one.
Pretty Good Privacy- Here you can download encryption software to keep your communications private. This site is a MUST for any attorneys that send client material over the net. US citizens should be aware that encryption technology is on the Commerce Control List, and exporting it to other countries may violate Federal law. Check out PGP 5.5 while you are there. My public key can be found at Downloads.
Fast Company- Excellent paper and online magazine for the working warriors of the world.
Electronic Privacy Information Center- EPIC was also party to the Communications Decency Act challenge. Their site has a wonderful listing of recent and pending U.S. cases and bills regarding cyberspace issues. They have sister organizations in other countries, but this page addresses mostly American policy concerns. They provide an excellent overview of encryption technology and the proposed plans to regulate encryption.
Electronic Frontier Foundation- The Electronic Frontier Foundation is a nonprofit foundation that promotes privacy protection, free expression, online responsibility, and contains various helpful online resources. Their page maintains a good list of legal concerns facing the Internet. For a global perspective, check out the Doomsday Clock.
