TEST TAKING SKILLS/ANXIETY
In the past, some students have had problems not doing as well as they expected to on the first exam. Most often, this is simply a case of not spending enough time on your studies. However, sometimes it may be due to test anxiety. You must be able to relax during exams in order to correctly read and interpret the questions and answers. The University Counseling Center may be able to assist you with this issue. They can be reached at 392-1575 during normal business hours. They have also indicated that they may be able to set up a specific help group or workshop for us if several students would like to meet together. This link to the counseling center also has online info on test anxiety and self help skills. Be sure to look through their links.
IF YOU NEED ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE
If you need assistance with the course, please see me in class,
during
my office hours, or email me for an appointment. I am happy to
help you with questions and go over any difficult or confusing concepts
with you. However, if you need remediation or extensive help, you
can check out the tutor links on the class webpage. In cases
where a student needs extensive academic assistance, you will need to
join a tutor or study group or hire a tutor.
If you need assistance with academic counseling, you may call the University Advising Center at 392-1521. They may refer you to another office specific to your area of study.
There are several academic issues I can discuss with you, such as choosing a major, the Zoology major, career opportunities, or graduate and professional schools. However, you will need to contact the official advisors for your college/major if you need help with choosing courses, staying on the tracking program, or filing any petitions for changes to your academic program.
