The winner of the International Trombone Associationís 2001 FRANK ROSOLINO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for jazz trombone was Mr. Roland Barber of Nashville, Tennessee, (currently enrolled as a third year student at Indiana University). He represented the ITA at their 30th Annual International Trombone Festival, May 20-24 held at Belmont University, Nashville,TN., and received the 22th Annual Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship (jazz trombone). In addition, Mr. Barber was the recipient of the prestigious Bach Award from the Vincent Bach Company, a division of the Selmer Co./Ludwig Industries. The Frank Rosolino Memorial Fund, Inc., contributed a cash prize of $1000 to be used for travel and to further Mr. Barber's music education.
This yearís first runner-up for the Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship was Mr. Stephen Smith, University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. The second place runner-up was Mr. Joe Beaty of Pipe Creek, Texas.
Prior to the Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship Award,
Mr. Barber was chosen for the first year of Raviniaís Steans Institute
for Young Musicians Jazz Artists program. He was judged the Outstanding
Trombone Soloist at the National Duke Ellington Festival at Lincoln
Center, adjucated by Slide Hampton, was the Slide Hampton Scholarship Recipient
from the New York Conference for Brass, for attendance at the FAME festival
in New Jersey, Delfeayo Marsalis, coordiator; Bass Trombonist with the
1997 National Grammy Jazz Band, New York, awarded the Don Beyer Trombone
Incentive Award 1997 and was trombonist, with Terre Nova, an ensemble dedicated
to the performance of original jazz music, Indiana University.

Professor Emeritus Eugene E. Grissom, College of Fine Arts, University of Florida, is co-sponsor of the Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship along with the International Trombone Association since 1979 and is currently serving on the ITA Scholarship, Prizes, and Awards Committee. He is Executive Director of the Frank Rosolino Memorial Fund, Inc.
