The Everglades Information Page

This is just a rough page. We hope to develop a real page of Everglades information, research summaries, and computer visualizations.

Everglades Research

We have put two of the visualizations we use to think about the Everglades on-line. You can take a cross-scale journey through the Everglades, or see an animation of how water colors have changed recently in Florida Bay.

The abstract of an essay on the history of the management of the Everglades, The Everglades: Evolution of Management in a Turbulent Ecosystem, by Stephen Light, Lance Gunderson and C.S. Holling is also available. This fuller exploration of the issues surrounding the management of regional ecosystems can be found in the book Barriers & Bridges to the Renewal of Ecosystems and Institutions.

Everglades Links

Here are a collection of linkages to web resources discussing various aspects of the Everglades.

Back to the Everglades by Norman Boucher is a recent article from the Technology Review.

A variety of US federal and state agencies are involved in managing the Everglades. They include the Florida Water Management Districts, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the Florida Office of Ecosystem Management.

Various environmental groups have published information about the Everglades. These groups include the Wilderness Society, the Sierra Club and the South Florida Environmental Reader.

Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve are two of the National Parks in the Everglades Ecosystem.
